I'm an accountant, but WTF is an inventory tax???!!! That gets charged to the consumer??!!
[sm=wtf.gif]
I thought I'd seen them all, but that's a new one on me..
Inventory tax is the cost of intrest paid while on site at the dealership
which is just my thoughts... which is still crap.
I assumed it was some nonsense like that, but that should just be a cost of doing business for the dealer, NOT something that is charged as an individual line item to the customer. That's the same as adding a percentage of the dealership's electric bill to the price of the bike. As I said, just the cost of doing business.
Learn from it ......... I have saved $$$$$$$$$$$$$ just from going on this forum and asking from others ( not the dealers)
When I bought my first HD it took me 2 or 3 months to to cut through the BS from the dealers to the point where I bought mine some 120 miles away from where I live. This is the down time for bikes up here in Michigan so this is the time for me to research the new items on the links to the right ===> You can also do most of the maintenance on your bike yourself (like oil changes) $35.00 and avoid the dealer to the tune of $85.00 w/crome filter (what a joke)
I think the dealerships push this (extended warranty)on the un-knowing first HD customer
I believe you can sell back the extended warranty.... and maybe you can post something on stealer-dealers... once upon a time the dealers would have a fit if they showed up on here... havent paid a whole lot of attention to the site lately
I bought my 07 Sportie for 13 grand. All my maintance iscoveredand tire coverage for 36k. I'm sure the Harley buy back applies. What do you think?
I bought the same exact bike 2007 XL883C in vivid black for $7,795 MSRP + $260 shipping, no doc or prep, and $28 for tags. Out the door was $8766.63. That also included an extra 90 days on the warranty = 27months and 25% off all accessories for 30 days (even for friends).
Yep... I would say you werescrewed with a smile.
Yikes! That is a little steep. I paid $8500 for my 05 883C and that included SE II pipes installed, SE A/C, carb rejetted, detachablewindshield, sissy bar and pad, luggage rack and bag. Also included a 6 year extended warranty along with the wheel warranty.
As for tires, the 2 dealers by me install them for free if you buy the tires from them. They do of course crank up the prices of the tires ($150 for the rear Dunlop and $125 for the front Dunlop) but it still sounds cheaper than what some of you guys say the dealer is charging. The dealer here seems to always havegood sales during winter so I had mine installed in December and for both new tires, tube, rim band, balance and install it was $240 which is a pretty damn good price for a dealer especially.
its not even my bike and im pissed off....I cant believe they could keep a straight face and sell it to you for that price....I'd be calling Harley and seeing what they could do about it....maybe let you have some in store credit for that much of an over charge...If your not upset about over paying 5 K then I have some beach front property here in Arkansas that I'd sell to ya cheap..
its a texas thing. back in 02 when i was looking for my sportster i had checked all the dealerships in louisiana, nothing. was checking with the dealers in east texas, since i live 30 miles from the border, and found that they were all jacking up the price. hell, cowboys in beaumont quoted me 10k for an 883 standard. when i asked if that was out the door, he said nope, that was before dealer prep, taxes, etc..... so that would have been at least 13k then and it was a standard, not a custom and 5 years ago to boot.
thankfully, dudes loan fell through and i was able to get my 02 hugger from hd new orleans for a good price. paid 7 something total with 4 year extended warranty (yeah, i know, but it was my first harley and i wasn't sure how hard they were to work on), taxes, doc fees, etc.
one question i have to ask though, is given that base price, are you sure you didn't get a 1200?

If a dealer tells you there is an inventory tax, he is scamming you. Dealers do not pay any interest on the bikes............because they don't pay Harley Davidson for a bike until it is sold. The only time a dealership is out cash, is when they take another bike on trade. They pay Harley for the new bike, but of course, don't recoup their money until the used unit is sold.

Sam,
I agree that inventory tax is a scam. I also agree that dealers get the bikes on what is called "floor plan" which means they do not pay for the bike until it is sold. But after 90 days the dealer starts payingHarley interest(which is currently .6875% per month or 8.25% per year). If it is traded for, you are correct the dealer has to pay for the bike that was floor planned. In Nashville at C&S Harley you pay MSRP, $260 freight (for a Sporty), $80 localsales tax (it's 2% but caps off @ $80), 7.5% state sales tax,and $28 TN tag (license plate). No add on's, no doc, no prep, no bullshit. Just call C&S and ask for EK.
