So how many of you ride to work every day, regardless of the weather ?..
I don't like riding in the rain so I check the forecast every day.. but I still see some people out riding their Harleys even on rainy days..
The reason I don't like riding in the rain is because the first and only time I ever dropped a bike was riding under the rain a good 5 years back.. I wasn't even going fast, but the bike slipped right from under me while taking a twisty.. Since then, I always get nervous whenever I get caught in out in the rain while riding..
raised hand...until i got to the all weather part...
i'm not riding purposely in the rain, especially to work. chopped rear fender on even a wet street slings a strip right up my shirt. That doesn't look good in corporate eyes
I ride to work every day. My weather forcasting system is simple. I look out the front door and if it isn't foggy, raining, snowing, icy or just to damn cold (I'll ride down to the upper 20's) I'm riding. A rare exception was yesterday. I opened the garge door, looked up and saw a broken cloudy sky and took off for work on my bike. 5 blocks later a swung a left hand turn onto a street that looked as if it ran directly into hell! I did an immediate about face and went back home to get my car. By the time I got the car out of the garage and the bike in, it had turned pitch black outside! (7AM) As it was, it didn't rain until well after I had gotten in to work.
A 50% chance of rain meens that there is a 50% chance it won't! That, coupled with the accuracy of the weatherman and my common sense has more or less kept me dry. For the ride home I invested in a rain suit if needed!
I purposely avoid riding in the rain if I have to. If the weather is nice however I'm riding. It saves me $50 a week in gasoline costs when I ride the bike.
Here - rain or shine. The only thing the weather does is determine my helmet. Anything over 30% chance of rain and I wear my full face. Otherwise, its the half helmet.
Since my sporty is my only mode of transportation, aside from walking, I take it to work rain or shine. That's what a rain suit is for!
It also helps that my boss was a harley rider and knew that my bike was my only way to work, so days when the weather would be looking rough, he would always let me go early to beat the weather, didn't always work out though!
I try my damndest to ride to work as much as possible...problem is I'm a firefighter so I have to hope tomorrow's forecast is accurate too because I'm not coming home till then
though if it rains, at least I'm going home at that point...got towels and adult beverages there
