Well today I put another 100 miles on my 2011 XL1200C and man is this upper engine noise getting loud. My buddy riding next to me on his softail couldn't believe he could hear the noise going down the road at 60 mph.
I even stopped by the dealer and the service mgr. rode the bike and said normal.
But is it normal for upper engine noise to get louder as more miles are run?
The bike has 2900 miles now and has 1400 miles since last oil change.
Using conventional HD 20w50 oil.
I even had a Indy mechanic ride the bike and he said that there is a issue.
He should know as he also rides a Sportster.
The dealer won't do any more, I called Harley and asked for a district rep. to look at my bike and they said that they can't arrange that. HD said that the dealer has to have the rep. look at the bike if they think there is a issue they can't resolve and obviously the dealer doesn't think my bike has a issue.
In fact the owner of the dealer said they will have to start charging me diagnostic time if i want to pursue this issue as they don't see any problem.
My bike has 10 months left on the warranty.
Some guys on here say to fix it yourself or have a Indy do it.
But the bike is under warranty and this needs to be resolved.
Running Shell and Sunoco 93 octane fuel, stock mufflers, stock air cleaner.

That bites, Falcon. Start documenting it. Write letters to everybody that you know of in HD, including the district rep directly, if you know his name. Pay the Indy to write a letter as well or, you write it and ask him to sign it.
Not trying to be an *** but almost every post you have complains about your bike, maybe a Harley isn't for you?
No your not being a ***, as I understand that it seems like I am having several issues. Or maybe i have a lemon.
And yes I also had the same though about whether a Harley is the right bike for me.
But when I go to the off topics section of this forum and ask about other bikes its almost like i called someones mother a ***** or something.
I know guys are passionate about their Harleys and i understand that, but gee I am only trying to learn.
