charging help
Hi guys . I am new here and also new to owning a Harley. I have an 04 sportster custom . I am having some charging issues , I replaced the regulator and it fixed it for about 1500 mikes . i was out riding sunday and it quit charging again . anyone know of any common issues in this ?

well you don't notice anything wrong until you stop . Try to start it back abd the atarter just clicks . I pushed it off and made it home . by the time the bat light comes on the battery is pretty much dead . Last time , before replacing the regulator , I checked the ac voltage coming out of the stater. . It was good . i haven't had a chance ti check it again yet .

The Harley stators are pretty crappy quality IMO, I've had 3 of them fail.
Cycle Electric makes higher quality stators and regulators that are direct replacements for the HD parts and cost about the same.
JP Cycles carries them, but you can probably find better prices if you shop around.

+1 Change the Stator and Regulator to Cycle Electric's replacements. Way better quality than Harleys.........

Thanks guys .. I have a drag specialties stator on the way .. If it fails again i will do an upgrade next time
