Start with the other crap! My bike sat covered in the parking lot for 8 days cause I lost my air cleaner one night. During this time I'm guessing someone backed into it and bent my rear fender. So I'm buying a cutting wheel for the grinder and chopping it down. Just wanted to get that off my chest. The bike is maybe 6 months old, a little over 5k miles and I was like whatever when I saw it. I'll chop it...
About to buy some drag bars and even though I'm going to eventually get new grips will I be able to put the old ones back on for now? I don't even know how to get them off but I know I can find out real quick.
And what size do I need? 1" diameter right? I'd like to use the mirrors and they seem to either be shorter than stock or longer. If I'm not mistaken stock is around 27" and all I see on ebay is 24" or 29"+.
I don't want them to be big but I want to keep the mirrors.
And I'd like to get some with some pull back if that matters.
Yeah you need 1". Try and use the stock mirrors flipped and see how that is. I got some 3" chromies from e bay. You may end up destroying the grips. Some people use a compressor and blow air under the grip to lift it off.
your throttle grip will come off with the throttle assembly. Compressed air helps with the other one. or a lot of wiggling and twisting. My oem bars were for old Sporties. Running 28" bars with 5 degree bend to em.
I changed out my grips this last winter, just took some wiggling and some sweat, but came off in one peice. If I end up selling the bike or trading it in, I plan on putting the OEM grips back on.
post some pics of your rebuild

It seems that going with wider bars is more comfortable and gives you better response. I skipped the Drag bars and went with Biltwell Tracker bars which have a slight rise. What a difference!!! My ride is so much better now.
