So I've been doing research for a few weeks on what seat to get for long distance rides two up. I started thinking I would get the Mustang Day Tripper but after reading a heap of bad reviews I started looking in other places. I read a lot of great reviews about the HD Sundowner but I couldn't find any pictures of it mounted on a 48. I knew it looked huge in the pictures by itself and I was pretty worried that it might just look ridiculous. I ended up ordering it anyway thinking that if I really hated it I could always turn around and sell it pretty easily. It came in today so I though I would snap a few pictures to show anyone that might be interested.
so after the install and some sitting back and looking at it I have come to the conclusion that it fits the 48 pretty well for a two up application. When riding solo I think there are many better options but I am pleasantly surprised with the HD Sundowner. I am doing a 2200 mile round trip down to Lackland AFB, TX for a school next week so after I get some time in the saddle I will report back with a post ride review.
it is a comfortable seat...but i hate the look of it... i have 1 in a box.
the guy i bought the bike off it used it, my recommendation for you...
take it off ASAP. claybar, wash wax the rear fender then put 3m wrap on it. this seat scuffs the fender to hell. i just spent a lot of time trying to get the pitting out and blended it in with a lot of polish and wax... looks ok now at first glance...but its still there.
its hard to see because of all the work i did to clean it up ...the black wax has a dye in it so it hides it really well..then add the polishing and its not bad but you can feel all the little chipps out of the paint and the black wax will have faded in a couple weeks and its back to white chips...
if you see where the reflection of the flash is...just to the left and right of it you see the marks about 1 cm down and they are about 2-3" wide each.
putting felt or some other cloth under it may help as well...but i would do the 3m plus maybe the felt.
Good to know about the rubbing as I have the same seat for the wife. When I put it on again with the sisy bar I will grab a pic or two to show that setup also.
UPDATE* I put down 1120 miles this weekend and the Sundowner is worth every penny. I'm not even slightly sore. If you are on the fence I hope this helps.
