Im back working on my bike I had an genius idea to build a 60ft tower in my yard and it ended up eating up all my play money anyway......
So I am progressing in my 1983 XLS Ironhead swap with an 2002 Evo Sporty 1200. Motor is in and running but I have a question on the belt to chain conversion. I didnt get the front pulley or hardware so I bought the locknut, a chain conversion sprocket, the inner spacer and o-ring that goes on the inside of the spacer.
The spacer appears to be larger than the hole?? Do I need to take the large rubber seal out and put it back in after the spacer?? See pics
That spacer is the exact one for a belt drive for that year? I would think pulling the seal out, that I assume is supposed to seal against the spacer surface, would cause oil in trans to be thrown everywhere. the o-ring is tiny and just fits over the shaft
That spacer looks too big for the oil seal. A proper fit would be the inside flange of the spacer pushed slightly outwards so it rubs lightly on the spacer. This fit looks like the sidewall of the spacer would have to be compressed/bulged a lot to fit over that spacer - if you could even get it on, those kinds of seals generally don't stretch much, if at all, would probably just bend. I'd talk to the folks you got the parts from to see if they can set you up with a proper fitting seal. Or thinner spacer; I wonder if you really got the right part.
Ok cool back to the Harley dealer cause thats who sold it too me LOL. you would think their computer would know. It even looks the same in the manual but I will go back and chat with the parts guys tomm. Also thats seal is the one that came on the motor I havent removed it like I said when I got the motor it didnt have the belt pulley or any of the hardware associated with it I had to buy at harley or order
