I have only ridden standard bikes all my life. I was looking at the 2012 Sportster Custom which comes with forward controls. I am only 5'7" in height.
with a 30 inch inseam. Will forward controls be an obstacle for me? Am I better off with a Nightster with standard controls?

law2747, even though I'm 6'-0" and wear a 32-34" inseam, my knees are still quite bent with the forwards on my Iron, so I don't think you'll have any problems...
...and please please please no pics of the disco shoes, or you in the leisure suit you bought that time at John Travolta's garage sale, or I swear we'll have to you upside the head! LOL.
