I wouldn't do it to a new bike for 2 reasons.

1. You don't want to void any warranties. You go that far and you got ZERO warranty

2. Get used to it so you have a baseline and know what each mod does.

BTW, why 1200? Why not get a 1250 kit? I probably will go with NRHS but Hammer Performance isn't a bad choice at all.

Another question. Why go that route? Why not wait and save up a few bucks more and go further? When you take the 1250 kit, get heads. While you are at it, get a matching cam. After that, you can dyno tune it or DIY all at once. If you are taking out the pistons, it isn't that much more to go with cams, is it? Heads have to be off anyways. Also you have to remap your ECM

I would do it. But, I would go with NRHS , or Hammer. The quality of parts and customer service is better than the Harley kit. Also invest in a quality auto tuner like the thunder max, that way you wont have to mess with the dyno and it will adapt to whatever you do to the bike. Screw the warranty, I rode my bike through the warranty period with no issues what so ever. The sportsters are a tough little bike and you wont have much trouble with the engine.

I converted my Iron to a stage one 1250 using the NRHS kit at 3800kms and couldn't be happier with the results and that was just a stage one conversion with stock 883 heads. I wanted to let the whole engine break in before I changed the jugs and pistons. I am now at 14000kms and the bike is running awesome and pulls strong.

Converting the engine did not void my whole warranty. I have had my bike in for several warranty issues ( VSS, fuel light issues, leaky shift shaft seal) and I told them about my DIY 1250 conversion right from the start and I had no problems. Obviously the warranty on the top end and pistons is gone and I suppose they could void any problems with the bottom end if they wanted.

This was my first time DIY:
