Default 1200C or Nightster

Hey Guys I have never owned a sportster but I have owned many Harley's. I can buy a new 07 1200C for 8495 + tax (no fees) or the Nightster Orange and Black with Security for 9500 + tax (no fees). This is going to be a second bike for me, something to do a poker run or hang out on. I have ridden 35 years and owned many bikes, I have always thought the Sportster was for beginners. Will I feel as part of the crowd on the Sportster. I am not a huge guy but I don't want to feel out of place. Please give me your thoughts on the two bikes for the money and the resale value down the road if I should decide. I do like the Sporty engine better than the Twin Cam and I know the Sporty is a great bike.

For resale, your money is best spent on the Nightster. Special editions are always a selling point. Plus the Nightsters are just plain badazz. I have a '06 1200C, but would have gotten a Nightster if they had them back then.

Fit in? Hell yea you'll fit in. At least with any true HD enthusiasts. If anyone talks smack, just roll the throttle and give them a little lesson about what Sporties are made for.

For beginers? Most people think that because they are smaller than the rest of the lineup. It's no coincidence that Corvettes are smaller than Caprice Classics and Mustangs are smaller than LTDs andBaracudas are.......well, you get the picture.[sm=biker.gif]

Between the two, I'd go with the Custom, then the Roadster before the Nightster.Actually I'd go with the Roadster 1st, but definately either before the overpriced Nightster. JMHO

But the truth is - the Custom and Nightster are pretty different bikes with no clear benefit to one over the other. Figure out what one you want and enjoy.

I'd go for the custom, the nightster is a totally different looking bike and it doesn't do anything for me. I think most people either hate the way they look or love them. As for fitting in, you won't have a problem.

The nightster looks cool, but for me it doesnt have enough chrome. I looked at my bike and the sportster, I like the crome better. Just my opinion... if you want to add anything, then your best bet is the custom.
They are both cool.

Umm, they're both sportsters!!

I'd go for the Nightster without thinking twice.

The nightster has a shorter wheelbase and is lighter so it should be faster and easier to handle at slower speeds, not as comfortable at higher speeds. Less options available in black so you will spend less on options unless you powder coat the available chrome optionsfor the other sportsters, then you will spend more.I had the wife lined up for the 1200 L,just about to pull the trigger, then get the email at work from Harley announcing the Nightster, changed plans and ordered the orange and black Nightster, comes in the first week of April. Plan to give to middle son when he gets his lic and training in 2 years, sure he will be the coolest lookingkid in HS. Much cooler than my 76 Nova with a straight 6 when I was in HS.Your call but the Nightster does look cool, but then again so does any Harley.
