Default Leaking CV Carb

I was looking at my bike today after a long ride and noticed a lot of fluid on my crank case. It was fuel I checked my petcock it was off. My accelerator pump was leaking from the bottom. One screw was loose I tightened it went around the block came back and it was still dripping. I looked up rebuild kits and thought maybe its the diaphragm until I read it goes at the top. Theres no seal its metal against metal and its suppose to stop fuel from leaking out? What do you think the cause is for the leaking? The diaphragm the spring the plunger? Im not sure.

Your diaphragm is your seal too. So is the little o-ring. If it is actually leaking from your accelerator pump you probably have a cracked diaphragm. Here is the layout of a CV carb for (based on your user name) a 1992 XLH Sportster. But they are all about the same when it comes to CV carbs. Your looking at part #s 42 & 43.

Well apparently the link won't take you anywhere but Ronnie's home page. So, just click on the link near the top that says, "OEM Harley-Davidson Parts Finder" and then click on the blue link under the HD emblem. Choose the year of your bike and then choose the model you have. Then all you have to do is click on the Carb. assembly link it it will list all the parts for your carb.

thanks I have both the part book and service manual I just dont see how a diaphram mounted above the spring would stop the fuel from leaking when the fuel goes below the diaphram but thanks. now to overnight the parts and take it apart.I have ohio bike week coming up so hopefully I can get it done in time.

Just order a rebuild kit and give the carb an overhaul. You can get the kits HERE.

That should do it, if everything else is good, get a can of Seafoam and call it a day.
