I know there are many posts on "shocks" and I have read most of them. My question is this:
- Is the difference between the 412 and 430 series of Progressive that drastic to merit the $200 difference in price?
I know from stock it will be night and day....cause stock sucks. Feeling all those little ripples on the road are killing me. Not to mention that "bouncy, bouncy" feeling coming off humps and dips.
I can't tell you as I haven't used either...but I put roadking shocks (take offs)on my bike and its night and day difference..and you can get them cheap on ebay...
I haven't used either, either! However there is a lot of misinformation on HDF about shocks. The thing that makes shocks work well is the design of their damper mechanism. Cheap shocks have poor quality dampers and as cost goes up, so also should the quality and performance of the damping mechanism.
Unfortunately many of the shocks aimed at the Harley market give us very little information on which to judge if the extra cost is worth paying out. I have spent longer than was healthy reading through old posts on HDF and seen how some members have spent a lot of time and money trying out different shocks, searching for nirvana.
As for those two models of Progressive shocks, their website suggests the 430 are better looking, there is not much to suggest they actually provide superior damping! Only their 970 has any damping adjustment and only on compression. So it's not easy IMHO to directly answer your question.
