You guys may have heard of this stuff, it's blowing up on the Internet since they've made a commercial grade product. It's made of hydrophobic nano particles so they make water run away like someone has the plague. The videos pretty much speak for themselves. It's available at Home Depot and at only $20 a set this may be our godsend, boys.
I'm imagining a $20 set of hyper lightweight rain gear. You could spray a sweatshirt and sweatpants, they would compact down better than typical rain gear and have the flexibility to slip over your clothes while being 100% waterproof. Or, just go ahead and spray your gear you're already wearing, especially on a longer trip, starts raining? You're already wearing rain gear. And of course you can spray you bags.
Now it's too new for any actual customer reviews on breathability or durability on fabric but at just $20 I'm not sure i can afford to NOT try it.
I've read that it leaves a frosted bluish tint to whatever you spray... I would totally spray this on my lights and windshield if it didn't though. I hope they continue improving this tech! I'm itching to try it but I don't have anything that I can justify using it on.
The videos are crazy. They coat the guys white shoes, white clothes and dump chocolate syrup, mustard, ketchup ect and it just slides right off, and no sign of anything that appears to be sprayed on.
