Default Manifold Sensor Grinding

Today i noticed that there is a sensor on top of my manifold, and when the bike is off (and key removed) about every few seconds it makes a grinding sound, as best i can explain the sound. However even with the key out, and with my hand control switch flipped to "RUN" it stops doing it. It is only when that run switch is flipped to off that it makes this noise. Since parking in the garage for the night i opted to scoot the sensor back a hair so its connectors just barely are not plugged in.

What is this sensor, and will it slowly drain my battery at night while it's making these grinding sounds. Also if i leave my hand switch turned to "RUN", but no key in, will that drain the battery, because that would keep it from making the noise.

Maybe it's related to THIS?

There are wiring diagrams in the back of the Service Manual, you do have one, right?

hi there sure its not the fuel pump? i had a short in the fuses due too corrosion and the fuel pump kept cycling even when the bike was turned off. i had too pull the fuses clean all the contacts coat the contacts with dielectric grease . that solved several problems.

oh what kind/year bike ?

No it's not...smartass.

I discovered that it's the IAC Sensor, and the grinding sound is something called a PINTER, and that allows the TB to open/close. When i unplug the sensor the PINTER stops extending or retracting. Thus i need a new PINTER, and solved two of my own issues. but thanks for the smartass contribution, and yes i have both manuals. Service, and Electrical. :-)

You're welcome.
Maybe next time you start a thread, you could include some basic info like the year and model of the bike in question and we can be more helpful. Of course you wouldn't have to do that in every thread, if you listed the info in your sig on in your garage info.

Have a nice day.

cHarley,

I obviously read your post with the wrong intent bro. I'm used to forums where people get flamed a lot, and I assumed when you linked my other thread, i assumed you were flaming me, and what not. Hard to assume what emotion is behind a post, so i apologize for my heated response. I've never been the type of dude to not make right with someone when i **** up. Take care bud, and I appreciate you trying to help, and again apologize for my misunderstanding.

I would have just sent this to you in a PM, but since other people saw this and helped me realize you were not flaming me, I thought they should be able to see my apology to you as well.
