Default Re-assembly after 1200 work

So I've had my barrels done and got all the kit ready to convert my 883 to a 1200. Do I really need to use assembly lube, or as the bike is going straight into service can I just use some engine oil?

+1 - ALWAYS. No excuse for not doing it right, when you can get it at almost any auto parts store.

chunks of what? are they on the crankcase or cylinders? if on the crankcase plug the hole around the rod and spray with parts cleaner to loosen them. scrap off if necessary.

No, its the gasket stuck to the bottom of the cylinder....it's stuck fast! Tried carb cleaner and a blade but can't get enough pressure without scratching the surface.

Just wondered if anyone had come across anything superb for removing baked on paper gasket?

Assembly lube was intended for the most part for pieces that would sit a spell before initial fire-up. Yes, engine oil or atf works just fine.

ATF - as in automatic transmission fluid?

Reason I ask is that people say to use that to wipe in the bores after cleaning and I used some last night, the red stuff...
