Hi guys, used to have a VRSCDX and looking at getting another bike I am 6ft and 110kg like a rugby player. Is a 72 with forward controls too small for me? I have found a good deal on one on EBay but its a long way away. I had a ride on a Fat Bob but that's much dearer. I thought a 72 could be a cheaper way to have fun.
I don't think it would be too small, but it rides nothing like the Fatbob. I have both and love them for different reasons. Test drive is your best option.
I'm sure I can ride it just hard to know if its best for me. The price is good! Ill put a pic up later of me on one. Getting the time to demo one is the issue
Everyone rides different - what might feel fine to one - might be a bad feel to another, as stated above take a test ride and see if it is comfortable to you..
I am just about the same size as you; 6ft 1inch 230lbs with a 33 inch inseam. I just bought a 72 in May.
For me, it was the most comfortable stock equipped bike in the sportster line. (the forward controls and apes are standard here in the States)
For me, I don't think it's a long trip bike. Maybe a better seat would change my opinion a bit, but with the stock seat I'm good for 30mile (48 Km) jaunts then I'm ready to get off it for a few minutes. For riding to work, or zipping here and there around town, or exploring the countryside around my town, it's perfect!
It got me in to motorcycling and HD in a budget minded way. I enjoy this bike so much that I don't think I'll ever get rid of her. Instead, I'll just add a kick *** softail or touring bike to the garage when I get the itch to roam far and wide.
Good luck with your decision!

Go test ride one and be gone as long as they will allow you to be on it.
I just did 3800 miles on a 2013 "72" over 12 days. It is my first Harley and I will always own it. I will just add another bike to the stable if I want more or less. The styling is the best in the Sportster line hands down. I have never been asked more about a bike from others than any other bike I have ever owned, which includes 8 different Ducati's.
The only thing I would change next time for a long haul would be a touring seat and call it good.
