I know a few riders, and myself who have factory tune with no detonation problems at all and some who do.

Observations on the bikes with carbon problems are one of two things. Trying to sound like a big twin by lugging the crap out of the sporty. The other is the riders who run newfangled tiny micron oil filters with anti drain back valves. Oil is not getting filtered and extra oil psi makes oil seek a way out. So it finds its way to the breathers. Oil pukes, gets sucked in, makes carbon and bang! Your pre detonating.

Folks running the high flow 30 micron filter with no drainback valve never have this problem with riders I know and ride with.

Just running the right oil filter eliminates the 'need' to reroute breathers, clean carbon, retune, or octane increase to fix it when running the 63805-80A will eliminate the need to seek out one or all of these 'fixes'.

Just some observations putting some rubber down with my awesome riding partners. Nothing more, but I wish I did have some Kool high dollar fix I could suggest for them riders who love spending money. If not give a factory filter a try, don't lug to sound like them cool kids on the big engine bikes and it will fix itself. Then spend that money on more gas.

Good points but in my case I use the factory HD filters and I definately don't lug my engine, it gets a good work out everytime I ride it

umm... the new factory HD filters are 5 micron, and are recommended for all applications. Another year or two you won't be able to buy a 30 micron from Harley.

I doubt that. As of now the 30 micron is still the OEM filter for Evolution Sportsters. As long as they keep making that, I bet we'll see the 30 micron filter.

Ummm...... The new sportsters come from the factory with a 30 micron filter that they are speced for.

I suspect you use a 5 micron filter then? Maybe with an anti drain back valve?

Another year or two and all harleys built since that filter was specified will poof into thin air and no longer need filters made for them. I almost peed my pants laughing reading that. If it makes ya feel better then ok, Harley will no longer make a filter specified for scores of their bikes. OMG I just made myself pee my pants laughing....
