Default questions on gearing and exhaust...

There are a couple of things i need to get my sporty up to snuff.

First, would it be wise to put a 1200 sprocket on a stock 883? I pulled out in fourth Sunday, i feel that's a bit excessive... I need a little more top end for highway travel/fuel economy. would i be better off swapping my drive sprocket or wheel sprocket or both?

Second. I'm thinking about having a custom 2 into 1 collector slip on made that connects to stock headers and a chopped stock slip on. Hopefully to save money and not buy a full 2 into 1 system. Thoughts on such modifications???

I have run a 32T/68T on a '07 883 with no problems.

what year is your 883, ie, what sprocket is on it? IIRC the newer ones come with the 29T, same as the 1200. Options would be 29T (1200), 30T (international), 32T (aftermarket). Each tooth is worth about 3.5%, you have to decide how much low end you want to sacrifice to top end.

I'm of the opinion you are better off buying an exhaust, I assume there is some engineering done on the design. You can find a used system for a reasonable price, sometimes new ones pop up on EBay pretty cheap too.

you should have a 29T on there already. Changing to a 30T will only gain 3.5% (at a given RPM you'll be travelling 3.5% faster). I'd suggest you look at the 32T, that'll gain you about 10%. It will be less 'snappy' in the city though.

Now, when you change these pulleys, don't you need to throw a fudge factor at the ECM to correct the speedo? 10% off is quite a bit of speedo error.

Leave your gearing as it is! Your bike is fine and already has tall gearing, so that the poor thing can meet EPA noise regulations. Raising it further will not give you any benefits IMHO, just reduce performance. If you think it is busy in top gear on the highway that suggests you haven't discovered ear plugs! Wear them on all trips except short local ones - best tuning aid known to man.
