Sometimes guys that say stock shocks are already 11-11.5" are measuing them on the bike (with the wgt. sag they are shorter). But off the bike stock shocks are really 11.75.

...If you want to lower your bike 1/2 then you need to buy 11" progressives and it would lower your bike 3/4 of an inch....
I don't think this is entirely true, the .75 inch difference in shock length is at an angle, so the actual amount would be something less than .75". Without knowing this angle I would guess that a.75" shock length drop would get you around .55" lower.

MikeOK,
Sorry but wrong. Shock length is measured from center of shock eye to center of other shock eye.

cHarley, I was speaking of the distance the bike is actually lowered, not the shock length, which are two different things.

Incidentally, if you swap 11.75" shocks for 11" the amount of lowering will be at least 1-1.5" (I measured the fender line against the tire when I did mine. And when you sit on it, it will be a noticeable 1.5-1.75" difference in hgt. especially if the preload is set to the lowest notch. I have my 11" 412 shocks (with std. spring) set at the next to the heaviset preload and when I sit on the bike (140lbs. mind you) the fender line is nearly even with the rim.

Pretty good ride but overall but you end up with less than 2" of travel.

I have a 97 hugger and put on 412's x 11.5 inch. I got themoff of Ebay for 150.00. Best ride ever. It lowered the bike by almost3/4 ofan inch. Put progresive springs in front as well and it rides like a dream , even 2 up riding is smooth. I weigh around 170 so I set my shocks at the 3rd setting and the last when 2 up. They are awesome shocks. I did have to space them out a bit to clear the belt gaurd.

Just to add: I hope everybody is aware that lower shocks are for looks and not for handling. You generally ruin handling by lowering the bike.

I have 12.5" progressives on my bike. They balance looks with handling in a way that satisfies me. I could have gotten better handling with longer shocks, but wanted to preserve the look of the bike.
