Default Need tips on fenderchop

So I just ordered a set of 10" dk beefy struts and a shorter kickstand so I can lower the back end of my 48. I plan on installing them this weekend and I have wanted to chop my fender and fender frame mounts far a while now. I have never cut a fender so I need all the help I can get. I have watched videos and looked at some threads but still a little nervous about screwing up.
Also where should I relocate my directional to and do I need anything to do it?

I can't help, but I will be doing this over the winter. I plan to buy another used fender so I don't have to mess up on my only fender. Might be worth a thought?

I personally would use a dremel or cutoff wheel as opposed to a sawzall or jigsaw due to blade bounce. Some have had great results using both. Mask tape the cut to help prevent paint lifting.
Finish the edge so it won't rust. Good luck!
Do u have a solo spring seat to take the shock of the struts?

High speed cutoff tool is what we used.

You can see a-z what I did with my fender in this thread.

I have done two chops on my fender. The first was a dremel with a cut off wheel. The second chop I used a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade. The jigsaw IMO did a much cleaner and easier cut. This was with the fender off the bike. Take your time and go slow.

I used the edge of 3/4" masking tape fir the shape/edge & a 4.5" Angle Grinder with a thin fiberglass wheel. Made the cut with the thin wheel, used a stone type wheel to smooth it & make it all straight then put a "flapper" sand paper wheel on to make to have a nice, smooth rolled edge. Used a thick fiberglass wheel to cut the struts.
