Where is a good place to get a rear tire for my Sporty? I am just assuming the dealership will be an arm and a leg....does anyone have a brand preference? I'm not all that brand sensitive...I'll use an off brand of anything if it'll work.
Yeah, I've been looking at their site this morning....I think you posted them on another post I was looking at. They have really good prices, that's for sure.....from looking around in their listings they have some really cheapo tires, but I don't think I'll go with the Chang Shen. lol YIKES!! That's just sounds bad. lol I think I'll be getting the Dunlop 404.....I understand it's the same tire as the D401, it just doesn't say Harley Davidson on it. No big deal to me about the logo....can't see my back tire for the saddle bags anyway. lol
The 404 is not the same tire as the 401. The 404 is made in Japan, and the material is different. I put a 404 on the rear of the wife's Heritage, and she got 5,000 miles out of it when she normally gets 11,000 or soout of a rear tire. Weight rating on the 404 is also considerably less than on the 401 or 402.
I agree....stay away from the D404. It is not the same tire...they look the same, but are not. The D401 is belted and the D404 are not.
I would suggest the D401 or D402 on the rear. Both are excellent tires and provide many miles of life. You can sometimes find the D402 Police version less than the standard D402. Either one are excellent tires. I am partial to the Police versions though...my Electra Glides and one of my Dyna's have them on the rear.
The only time I would use a cheaper tire...is if I was on the road and needed a tire. I would be at whatever they had in stock for that time.
I have been running Shinko SR712 tires on my Sporty for over 10 years. They were good and do great in the rain. I can get both the front and back for under 100 bucks.
Americanmototire was the cheapest on the Dunlop tires. However, most dealers are still out of stock on them due to the strike. I ended up ordering Metzeler tires. motorcycleproshop was the cheapest source for the Metzelers.
