I was wondering what saddle bags work well with the Sportster. I have a 2006 883R converted to 1200. I'm looking at the Tourmaster Cruiser II Slant saddle bag, but don't know how they attach. Under the seat? How does that work?
I just ordered the exact bags this week but they've not come in yet. Should be simple enough mounting under the seat although I have a Mustang with separate pillion which might make it a little different (meaning creative positioning between the bolt holes and rubber bumpers under the seat and pillion).
Looks like it; they're a throwover. Remove the seat, adjust them to hang as you like and put the seat back on. They should have some tie downs to keep them from flopping around in the breeze. You can get some mounting brackets from Harley if you don't want the bags rubbing up against the bike.
Nice looking bags; I might get a set of those.
The size I ordered were 12" long, 6" deep by 9" tall. Any bag that is about 12" long will not require signal relocation and still allow clearance for your passengers leg. The distance from the back edge of the signal to the just ahead of the rear of your sidecovers (oil and battery)and the distance between is where they should fit as this will leave just enough passenger leg room. If you ride solo all the time you could get bigger ones(13-15")but they would be pushed forward more and not look as good. Whenver I get them I'll post pics of them. I decided on the tourmaster since they were cheap ($104.75) and have a boxed lid vs. a flap (less chance of rain or dust getting in) and zip-off detachment.
Seems to be the week to buy saddlebags! I ordered the TourMaster CII Box Saddlebag - Medium Plain throwover 78-320 (not the slanted) on Monday. Medium is the smallest CII bag they make. Researched saddlebags on this forum and internet and finally decided on these. Liked the box lid and not having to relocate the signals. http://www.motoemporium.com/_tourmas...seriibags.html had the best price. One thing this site didn't say (I found it on another site) was that the medium bags only have one strap not two as shown in the pictures. I bought them anyway, but would have been nice to see a pic of the one strap bag. They're going on a 1200L with solo mustang seat and fender bib - - no brackets (for now). Will post pic when I get them on the bike.
