Default Air mixture screw

Hello there. I am new to this forum. I have a '06 Sporty 883. Recently I installed a Dynojet carb kit. My question is this, the instruction want you to turn the Air mixture screw out 3 1/2 turn. So is that 3 1/2 complete turns or just every 1/2 turn 3 times? Thanks for your time.

Follow the instructions at the following site: http://www.harley-performance.com/ha...arburetor.html

It's likely that 3 1/2 turns out is not the best setting.

I've had a dynojet kit on my '91 for over 20 years, pretty sure my air mixture screw is somewhere between 3 and 3.5 turns out. Plugs read good, bike runs great.

Just some info for you and others, ...counter clockwise makes it leaner, clockwise makes it richer.
Backing it off gives it more air, hence the term "air" screw.
Most folks think unscrewing it (counter clockwise) gives it more gas, less air.
Counter clockwise = white spark plug base (too lean)
Clockwise = black/sooty spark plug base (too rich)
You want a tan/grey spark plug base, with a clean petty coat (bottom ceramic)

No! This is completely wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. It is not an "air screw" like on some Jap bikes. It is an idle mixture screw.

Essentially, it is a needle valve with the orifice flow controlled by the tip of the screw. It controls the amount of fuel allowed into the throttle plate bypass orifice to mix with that air.

Turning it in, or clockwise for a standard thread, will lean the mixture out. Less fuel is allowed through.

Turning it out, or counter-clockwise for a standard thread, will richen the mixture. More fuel is allowed through.
