Default Ape Hanger Question

I have a 2006 Sportster XLC with the stock low-rise handlebars. I've been looking to get ape hangers for a while. I talked to the mechanic at the local HD dealership, who said I could probably get away with 12" apes without having to extend the wire and cables. I just had a baby girl, so I'm not looking to spend $1000 - $1800 to change over to 14"-16" apes. Anyone know if the HD mechanic is correct? Have experience doing it? Have suggestions on 12" apes under $100?

Burly Brand Narrow Apes are available in 12" and can be found for a little over $100.

Thanks! These will fit and I can get away with using the stock cables/wires? Have you done it before?

Also, you might want to find someone who's taken off the stock apes from a Seventy Two. They're 10".

I put 10" bars on my 48 and had to lengthen my front brake line. Took the stock line to my local hose shop and they cut off the stock rubber section, crimped on a longer rubber hose, pressure tested and was out the door for $30. All the other cables were fine.

ten inch minis is all the higher you can go w/o changing ur cable and brake lines ive been there done that with my 05 xlc and doing that i had to bend the metal piece to the brake line almost straight and reroute the clutch and throttle idle cables when i went to my 12's i had to replace all the lines . When i did the oringal change to the ten's i was using 1.7 in drag spec. risers hope that helps

you can get a set of 12" apes from krome werks out of the dennis kirk cat. item number 59-5829 for 59.99 and burly brand cable kit item number 57-5126 for 189.99 and labor takes about a day doing it urself longest part is bleeding the brake line unless u run the wires thru the bars which looks much nicer and isnt that hard to do but with those bars youll have to drill ur own holes and the cable kit comes with the wire extensions too good luck
