I've tested my XL883c several times and always come-up with 52 to 53 mpg.
When I feel I'm getting towards the end of my tank, I stay in town on a strip where there are many gas stations and nothing desolate. First sing of chug, I get to a station. Pushed it to 200 miles.

I was getting 52-54 mpg on my 2012 Superlow with Screaming Eagle slipons and air filter in mixed city/hiway driving.I added the Xied's last year and now I get 50-52....good trade-off in my opinion.
My 2007 1200 C routinely gets 51, there is very little difference between around home and on a trip. Around home everything is at least 35 miles away. Maybe that's the secret.
On a Sturgis trip a couple years ago, my 03 1200C averaged right under 56mpg in 8 days over roughly 3300 miles. I took backroads the whole way and kept it a mostly leisurely 60mph with the occasional "over the speed limit" blast. I would say day to day I am in the 50-52 mpg range so I am happy with it.

Are you running any aftermarket pipes air filter etc? Whats you jetting in your carb. Those are some good numbers. I have a 99 xl1200c and getting like 39 railing on it around town. I need to run some more miles and cals tho to get a better idea. With the 3.3 gallon tank I have herd the reseves is anywhere from 0.5 to 0.8 gallons. One of these days i will run it dry when the wife is around to bring me gas LOL.

Mine just has Screamin Eagle slip-ons, DynoJet jet kit and a 7-inch round open air filter. And the normal routine maintenance obviously. Sorry, I can't remember off the top of my head the name of the air cleaner or jet size since it several years ago I did all that. I can look that up when I get home tonight and edit my post. It was from J&P Cyles and the jets I used are what was recommended from the manufacturer that have worked for me. I live out in the country so everywhere I ride it at least 25 miles away and I rarely take the interstate, I like to cruise in the 55-60 range and enjoy the backroads so that definately helps. Went to Milwaukee two years ago and averaged 48-50mpg but we did a good share of interstate that time.
