I had never done it either before I did my stage 1. Real easy: once you take the bowl (the bottom) off the carb, and you have the new jet in your hand, it will be obvious where it goes (and then it's just lefty loosey righty tighty). The 2nd time I changed the pilot, I didn't even need to remove the air filter or carb - just layed down, looked up and did it.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago, and the instuctions you read about it can make it seem harder than it really is. I took the carb off makes drilling out the idle mixture screw plug easyer to drill out. Also it is easyer to unscrew the bowel screws with the carb off the bike. Otherwise the only tips can give is tape off pipes and rocker covers off with blue masking tape so you scatch anything while working. You need a deep 9/16" socket with a with a reduced wall thickness to remove the breather bolts. I got a set of these sockets a Sears for 20$ without them you could strip the heads of the breather bolts.

I was able to do the whole job without removing the carb.Just took off fuel line a/c and bracket and tilted carb.Have a good drill bit to drill out idle mixture screw plug and replace the phillips screws with allen head ones.If you strip the phillips screws dont panic just use a small pair of visegrips to crack them lose.Other wise just follow the instructions in the tech section.

You can do it. I had never done anytype of carb work, and was quite intimidated with the idea. Especially when I started at the carb with a drill. Just follow the directions.

Here are a couple of really good links for instructions on both carb turning and carb jetting.

Could you post what size those allen head replacements are. I always seem to have a problem with trying to find the right replacement numbers. (Torx heads to allen heads for example)

Sorry I dont know what size the bolts are.I went out to my garage to find out what size they were useing my tap and die set but my set didnt go down that small.I bought my jet kit from sorgys and it came with the allen head bolts.Im not sure were you live but if theres a sears hardware nearby you could match it up yourself, thats what I would have done or take it down to a hardware store and have them match it up.

The Screws are 4mm I tired to find replacements when I did my rejet but was unsucessful finding any, so I put the stock screws back in they were in good shape I did not damage the heads taking them out. I looked everywhere I could think of Home Depot, Lowes hardware stores etc.. they all seemed to have the same selection of screws hex head zinc plated.
