Hey guys, I'm getting the bike serviced for it's 10000 mile checkup and my rear tire is bald so I need a new one. I told one of the guys that was ordering the tire that I wanted a 170 and he said that it wouldn't fit and would probably screw up the ride because of the rim size. I guess the sportster is a 3" rim and a 170 tire will make it handle crappy because the rim is made for a 130 tire, and the bike is already over that with a 150.
So what's the deal? I've seen people on the forum do it, but he seemed pretty adamant. It's still not too late to order what I want so convince me he's wrong!
Something like this might be able to be done...but I don't see the dealer doing this for you...If Harley says it can't then a dealer won't break that and become liable
Well that was the other thing. I mentioned that people had done it with a shinko tire and he said that the shinkos are **** tires. I've heard people here say they're good though?
Nothin wrong at all with shinkos, have them on my wifes bike for over two years now and couldnt be happier. Like they said the dealer is just trying to sucker you into something over priced. Not to mention most parts guys at the dealers seem to get offended when you know more than them lol...
It'll fit just fine.. I'm running a Shinko 77 170/70/16 with NO problems (04 XL1200 R) ! love the tire too, half the price of a metzeler & performs amazing ! got caught in a serious down pour & tires stuck like glue to the road.. i'll NEVER go back to a dunlop again..
