My first bike was and still is, a 2012 Iron. I had limited experience on a motorcycle of any kind and it had been roughly 10 years since that little experience took place. I took the MSF course and went home after day two and drove 30 miles without an issue. a few days later I was driving 30 miles each way to and from work with speeds up to 75. The bike is great. No bike is too big for anyone in my opinion. The power is all in the right wrist. You control the bike. If you are smart and do things right, you will continue to control the bike and hopefully it will never control you. I bought my Iron roughly 2 1/2 months ago and 1200 miles later, I know I made a good decision.
Thanks guys!! Also I have taken the MSF course already, which should help.
By chance, does anyone know how easy/how much it would cost to do a matte finish to paint? Love the matte look and was thinking about getting the blue iron, but I hate shiny paint, and would think it would love sweet if it was matte finish.
from what I know, the clear coat is what gives it its shine? Not that I would do it, since I don't trust myself, but would the paint shop just have to sand off the clear coat and apply a satin top coat to still protect the paint?
hijacked my own damn thread!
Thanks again for all the advice guys, really appreciate it!
I test rode one of those water cooled 500's today. I'm about 99.999999999999% sure these models will die in a year or two. I have 125cc 2 stroke Motocross bikes that will peel the black paint off these pigs. What the hell is HD thinking?
my first bike was an 883, I learned how to go around the block on my friends kawasaki 250, bought an 883, then had him ride my new 883 home for me from the dealer, took it to the high school parking lot, after a couple of hours I took it to the street. the hardest part on the 250 was learning first gear, the first time I popped the clutch and ended up on my neighbors lawn lol after I figured out how to give it gas and release the clutch, everything else was easy, if your already good at getting the bike going, your fine. the 883 will be perfect. like I said, take it to a parking lot, you'll see its not heavy at all, the bike wants to ride itself. after a month of riding every day I bought a fatboy. now I have a 98 road king & a sportster that I just bought new, and I ride the sporty more than the road king. so don't worry about the bullies that make fun of sporty's they're usually dicks anyway. good luck with your 883!

dunno what this has to do with the thread but ill bite...
they are thinking it will appeal to another market that has previously over looked HD. that market apparently isnt you.
Get what "fits" you. Try a Vrod? Maybe more HP than a 883 but with the low center of gravity it handles well. Could pick up a used bike either way and save $$.

a new rider is not going to handle that floppy front end.

paint shops are high dollar, expect to pay upwards of 350,,,and they do make a matte finish clear coat....I painted my ole BSA with a rattle can, did a great job and less than 50 bucks, and not hard to do, prep work takes the longest time tho.
