that's what I thought, I had intermittent loss of Speedo, ODO and spark that got progressively worse till it finally died and wouldn't come back. The shop pulled up what seemed to be complete records for every visit I have made but no record of a module replacement. I've got 87,500 on the clock as of today, just a little blue smoke sometimes when I first fire it up, other than that still runs strong! It seems to like premium gas more than it used to...
Thanks mrfikser, it's always good to have multiple options!
Update, it died twice on me again today, both times right after starting up. The ODO flashes off & On there are no headlights and it runs rough like it's on one cylinder. After turning off the key and turning it back on the first time it took right off, the second time after waiting about 20 min with no luck I started on the connections again. When I removed and re-inserted the cable into the grey box under the seat the ODO & Lights came on and it fired right up. I am positive that this part was replaced the last time this problem came up because the box has an almost new B/C label with the P/N on it. Turns out it's the turnsignal module but reading the body it seems that the tach signal and a few others pass through. Here's the fun part, with that connector completely disconnected the bike will start and run! Maybe there is a latching SCR in there on the tach signal that kills pass thru? Anybody heard of one of these things killing a bike?
