Aftermarket Ign module for a 2000 883, does one exist?
My original gave up the ghost at around 40,000 miles after being intermittent for about 20,000 miles. Yesterday the exact same symptoms started again! twice on the way back home my speedo, spark and odo kicked out right after starting up and pulling away from a coffee or gas stop and one time it didn't come back for a minute or so. This is the first time this has happened since the new ign switch install last month. She's all tore down now and I'm cleaning and reseating every fuse and connection but I've been here before, I'm betting I've got another ign module going south.
Anyone know of a non OEM module for my bike? it's a carbureted model,they should last more than 40,000 miles! My search for a creamin beagle version for my bike returned naught....

Bingo, CHarley. I'm actually running the 1005S-EX in my bike right now. It's a great module and is really nice. Installs directly where the OEM one was and you don't need to rewire anything.
There are also Dynatek, Ultima, and a couple other ones that fit our bikes.
charley, Thanks for the link! long time no post. Does that module replace the grey rectangular box under the seat? That's the one that goes belly up...

You said this is for a 2002, right? That year has a nosecone ignition module, which the Daytona TwinTec one replaces.
Scuba, no mine's a 2000. Seems like back then they were changing the ign systems almost every year. I know min is different than a 98...
I will check with my dealer if they replaced both units last time or what but the grey box under the seat looked brand new after they fixed it, maybe they just removed it to hook up to diag and cleaned it? I know there is electronics in the nose. that's where the timing set was in my 81 Iron head.
I'm looking at the install instructions for the 1005S-EX it doesn't sound too bad, if I can keep the kids out of the garage for a day I should be able to tackle it. What will one of these puppies set me back?
Ah, sorry. The '00 and '02 are identical anyways so it all still applies.
It really is that easy to install. The most complicated part is unpinning the connector, which can be done with a small flathead.
I paid about $230 for mine (I'd have to dig up the receipt to be sure) but have heard of some people getting refurbished units from time to time for around $180.
If you really want to stick to a budget, you should be able to pick up a takeoff 883 ICM on eBay or somewhere.
Not bad at all! I think stock is $159. If it acts up again I may just pick one up, I will get some clarification from the dealer on what was replaced last time. Still not clear on setting the advance, the instructions show 4 different curves with VOES grounded and un grounded and the setting is a 10 pos rotary switch.
OK checked with the dealer and their story is they replaced a defective VOES. From what I can find the VOES is either off or on and changes the timing map depending on intake pressure I don't see how this would kill my bike completely....

No, the VOES isn't going to cause the problems listed in your OP. And yep, I'm still around and have a bit over 100,000 miles on the Sporty.
