I am being told by a friend who is also a Helicopter mechanic, that it is no big deal to simply buy the pistons and then have the cylinders bored out. Any thoughts on this way to go? thanks.
It depends on how far you want to go with your conversion. Changing the pistons and jugs is only the first step in a total conversion. You also need to change the heads - bigger pistons mean more airflow and the 883 heads will restrict this. Next you need to re-port the carb. Again more airflow.... Then on machines like mine (2006 883L) you will need to remap the computer. All of this also assumes that you have already paid the Harley Tax (less restrictive air cleaner and pipes). Finally - you might want to change the drive system to something a little beefier. After all you've added more HP/Torque to the formula.
