Default Leaking Footrest On Primary Case.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and to owning a Harley. I purchased a 2002 Hugger and just finished making a few mods and doing some maintenance. I just swapped out the clutch cable due to changing the handlebars and noticed that I now have a small leak around the area where the footrest attaches to the primary case. Is there a gasket that I didn't notice? I have read that there is some type of gasket on the inside of the primary case, but I'm hoping that's not the case since I just changed the oil and would hate to have to take the entire cover off again. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is your clutch cable leaking where it enters the primary? I think there is an "O" ring and you need to seat that end of the cable housing extremely gently. Might check that first. I don't think there is anything to leak from the footrest mounts, as long as the primary gasket is intact.

Maybe your shifter seal leaking??

I'll double check that tonight. That would make more sense since I just changed that. I'll keep you posted.

Well, it was certainly leaking from the footrest bolts. Everything else was dry. I took the footrest bolts completely out and saw that the bolt holes were slowly dripping. I put some teflon tape around the bolts and torqued them to 28 ft lbs. I'm not sure how the teflon will hold up to the heat, but hopefully between the proper torque and the tape, it will help.
