I just put a 4.5 tank on my 2013 Sportster 48 and I was wondering what kind of seat people are using with this tank.. I have a badlander seat that I was using with my stock tank and of course it doesn't fit and it's only 2 months old :/ I like the spring seat but the kit and seat are expensive through Harley (yikes) If you have any pics to post please do so I would love to see them
How are you liking the 4.5 tank? I'm thinking of eventually putting one on my 48. Did the extra gas weight or size affect handling any? I'm short so I have the super reduced reach solo on my bike. Post a pic with the new tank. Did you get if from Harley or aftermarket?
thanks for the replies! I will take a pic when I get home from work this evening. I bought the tank off of Ebay.. it's off of a 2007 Sportster 1200 and it was painted old school design by Billy from Devil's Hand Productions. It is SO pretty! I love it! I just got it yesterday and haven't got a chance to ride the bike yet until I buy another seat. I am 5'2 btw
I put 7000 kms on my bicycles in a year without any discomfort. The 48 seat seems luxurious by comparison.
Funny, I put in the same kind of miles on my road bike with multiple 100 mile plus days and yet the stock seat on the 48 was the most uncomfortable thing I've ever been on!
Becky, I was going after that tank and was doing something and forgot - I've been bummed I missed that tank, it looked awesome! Please post pics of it on. Congrats - that is a one of a kind tank.
Everyone has a Mustang seat, but they have me too far back. Saddlemen and LePera make great seats. I think LePera has one that pushes you forward. Most companies do not make seats for smaller people. After much looking around I've stuck with the HD seats.

Here's my La Rosa solo spring seat mount and 16" solo leather seat with barrel springs from La Rosa Designs with the 4.5 gallon tank on my 1200 Custom...~$360 for both. It's no touring seat for sure but I prefer it over the HD spring seat. They have a ton of other looks and designs at varying prices. Might make it worth the $ for you.
I put on a 4.5 gal tank on my Sportster 72 I use 2 different seats a Mustang Day Tripper Solo that I bought for the 72 when I still had the 2.1 gal tank & a HD Sundowner Deep Bucket 2 up seat for a Sportster Custom. The HD Sundowner fits perfect & rides comfy The Mustang I made my own bracket so I could move the seat back to fit the larger tank. I'll
try to post a pick of the bracket I made. It was made from an inexpensive t bracket for lumber, drilled , bent Etc BUT DK Customs sells a bracket now that you can use o do the same thing

I put one on my 72 with a 2" lift. I did notice a little difference in weight / handling but not enough to worry about after riding and getting used to it in a day. Well worth the added distance between gas station stops
