Default Make Offer Posts...

I may be wrong in saying this and hope not to start a post war.

What makes a seller want someone else to price their stuff?
all these posts wanting you to make a offer only to be turned down and then ripped a new one cause they feel your offer is low balling them... Not all but some.
Seriously there ought to be a price posted in the ad to start with. (Just my thinking)
Gets old sending offers and because it isn't enough or whatever other reason get no reply.

good luck.

btw: MAKE A OFFER

That was your 2c worth? I;ll give you a penny, deal? (haha!)

I can understand why, from a psychological perspective.

Some people might not know exactly what they want but have a ball park idea - "Oh that's gotta be worth $100", gets offer of $20, feels insulted as it is a lot lower than they thought (making them out to have been wrong = bad thing to do).

Others might not know the S/H value but know what it cost them - "This cost me $200" (but it;s only worth $50 as s/h) - gets offer of $50, feels insulted becasue they paid the full whack for it new.

And then there are people who think that they might be over pricing and turning away buyers - put $150 on that $200 item that;s only s/h worth $50 = no one even bothers to make an offer.

There's all sorts of people - we don't all think the same way on a similar subject, and we all have our own internal triggers for feeling disrespected (for many people, that's their self-worth invested in a possession!)

As in my posts lately in the touring section....I literally just want the stuff gone, but I’m not going to take the time to box it up, drop it off, send you tracking all for a net profit after PayPal fees and shipping of $5.00. I’ll say cheap...but I’ll just throw it away for $5.00 and save the time

Good point.

When I sell stuff on ebay (not a regular seller) I mentally calculate the time to pack/wrap/box/post at Ł15 per hour. If the asking price doesn't allow for a reasonable profit after it all, I just toss it in the bin.

so... about Ł20 is the minimum I'll sell something on EBay for, under that and it's not worth farting about over (I'm not a business seller who does lots of Ł10 items that you can post off all in one go).

I will say that sometimes $5.00 is enough if you’re really cool about it though.

Still, I suppose it would depend on the price. Item cost 100, sold for 95 = $5.00 loss on original price but you're $95 up on just tossing it away.

But selling something for a fiver? Like a cap or such... nah.
Do you guys in the US have Freecycle? (give away things for free or request items website) (edit, I checked, you do, cool)
I'd put a $5 thing up on that.

Personally, when I advertise anything for sale I include a good description, photos, and how much I want for it. Saves a lot of time with buyers just wanting information. With everything posted most calls/emails are real buyers. On the other side if there is no price listed on something I am looking at I figure it is overpriced and just move on. My .02

What is worse than the make an offer guys are the ones who want full or more than retail for their used stuff. See this a lot on Craigslist. Used stuff is worth half at best...... Ill just buy new if I'm paying close to full price. Dont much pay attention to the stuff for sale on here. I suspect its the same game around here to.

There are some fair to great deals on here and I've taken advantage of many .... FWIW the "Make an Offer" guys seem to worried/concerned that they could have gotten more for their item had they posted a price that they thought was fair so they "troll" perspective buyers ... On the other hand many times I'll reply to the "Make an Offer" posting with a "I'll start the bidding at" and see what happens ... Sometimes it works, sometimes it crashes and burns

I've never understood the point of not putting a price in unless it was ridiculously overpriced... so I tend to agree with you.
