Default Why add fuel at 0% throttle position under 1k rpms?

Alot of the canned maps i see add fuel in the 0% throttle column from 1K down. Im curious as to why?

My SG was idling erradically, so i changed these values to 0 and now it idles great.

When you take off in first gear your rpms drop below idle. If you start rolling while idling you'll have issues.

I'm guessing the canned maps factor in intake or exhaust or cams or headwork... all increase airflow. when you increase airflow, you need more fuel to rebalance the mixture. A cold bike will also use more fuel at idle until it warms up. The maps might be tuned on the rich side to make sure the tuner covers their hide and it doesn't get close to being lean enough to get detonation. I've played around with tuning cars, but never played with any HD tuners though.

Well thats interesting and something I didnt think about. Thanks for the input!

For whatever reason, changing those values to 0 really helped my particular bike. It was a very noticeable change idling and even taking off from a stop. The bike seemed to have a brief hesitation when taking off, but this fixed that too.

Happy camper here to finally make the right tweaks!

From my experiences you get someone else's idea of how and what to change in a calibration for tuning purposes. Was the "canned" map created by a tuner? Exact same parts in the build?
Canned maps are worth what is paid for them....not much.

Im not sure how else to say it? Its the 0% throttle column. The specific cells are from 1k RPM down. By down, i mean 1k, 750, 500, etc...

Im really just simply asking why there would be fuel added in a tuner in that range. Thats all.

For example... It helps cool the engine down a little while idling or maybe, you cant get down below 1k too much anyway, so these cells are unreachable anyway. That type of stuff.

So are you referring to the VE tables then?
A recent SG is throttle by wire which doesn't have a 0% TPS as such and on the VE tables there seems to be typically a 1000 row and one below that at 750 or 825 depending on the config

I was just wondering where you put the 0's

(...unless this is a power commander (which I know nowt about) rather than a power vision?)

It is a power commander v. Sorry for not mentioning. I thought the question was generic enough that it applied to all tuners. My bad.
