Any of you guys from the Jacksonville area? I've got orders there and am just trying to get an idea of which areas to look for a house in. I'll be working in Jacksonville Beach, but I have kids in school so #1 priority is to find a place that has good schools(elementary). Don't mind a bit of a commute, but also don't want to spend the majority of my time driving back and forth. Anybody have any suggestions on where to look and estimated rush hour commute times from there to Jax Beach?
I live in the Mandarin area, which is cool for an old single dude like myself. But the other guys are correct, South of Jax is where I'd move if I had a family or was buying.
My daughter just went through this and they bought a home in North St. Augustine (St Johns County) because of the outstanding schools. They have 5 kids under the age of 8. He works is south Jacksonville just off I-95 and it only takes 20-30 min to drive.
Sorry I'm just now responding. Don't know why, but I didn't get any notifications when you guys replied(I usually do). Well we decided to buy and have put in a offer on a house closer to St. Augustine. They countered and we excepted their counter, so as long as all the inspections and everything go good we've found a place. After reading until I was blue in the face I decided that the commute is going to be work the better schools for my kids. Plus let be honest, I can ride the bike the majority of the year down there so it's not really even like commuting to me!
Glad you found a home to your liking. St Augustine can be chilly in the winter......maybe a couple days not ridable, depends on your tuffness/feeling when you get up. Hope your children slide right into their new classes.
Post up when the OPEN house is.
