Winds really picking up but still have power. Tampa Bay is dry as the storm sucks the water out to flood elsewhere. When the storm passes will push all that water back in causing the surge.
We're up in the northeast corner by Jacksonville riding it out like we did last year for Matthew. Because of the size of Irma we were thinking of leaving but by the time anyone had a clue where it was going, the folks from south Florida had turned I-95, I-75 and I-10 into parking lots. Now the bridges to our barrier island are closed and we're here for the duration. All the critters are inside, the utilities are working, lotsa friends and neighbors are still here and we're well supplied. Having a brew, watching the ball game. Life is good.
So far we're in good shape here in Brandon. Lots of branches covering the driveway and the yard. Still have rain, still have gusty winds but thank goodness it doesn't seem as bad as they predicted. No loss of power yet. Monday will be a long day cleaning up.
Hope all those who evacuated made it to a safe place, hope all those who stayed are happy with their decision. We stayed because it looked like the best choice at the time it had to be made, and it turned out as good as could be expected! Now hopefully the roads will get cleared, the winds will lay down, and we can go for a ride! Stay safe!
Had non moveable plans to be in NC before Irma was even on the radar. Shuttered the house up tight and left last Wednesday. Now stuck in NC waiting for the storm to clear out of GA. Was going to leave tomorrow for home but gas shortages and lack of power for the pumps in GA & N FL are still a big problem.
Never lost power at home and no damage - go figure.
Only minor damage (storm door trashed) and we were in one of the new small pockets in the Cape that has power. We are possibly stuck 500 miles away though because of lack of fuel and many gas stations still without power along I-75.
Been hunting for a couple 5 gallon gas cans which could get us back home but so far none to be found in a 20 miles radius.
It's a beautiful sunny morning here in Brandon, FL. Got the whole place pretty much cleaned up yesterday. Today we'll put back all the yard ornaments, wooden swing out front, flower garden flags and solar lights.
Once that's all over and done with I can start planning the make over of the inside of my garage!
