Given the age diversity in the group, this could get interesting.
From a cost and variety standpoint, we might want to consider a solo/duo type musician/DJ deal. Something like one that typically plays guitar and sings to a library of background accompaniment, ie. Karaoke style.

I like that. The old one man band type of thing. I see it around town a lot and it works well without a lot of overhead.
Just to clarify my above post, the term "Karaoke" doesn't imply amateur audience participation. It simply means a musician that uses instrumental background tracks to eliminate the need for a full band. The right musician should be able to accommodate a wide range of music preferences.
Given the age and personality range of the Crew, trying to hold a vote for a particular style of music is probably counter productive. This is a group event and about considering the group as a whole, not individual preferences. IMO, I think we should be looking for someone that can provide variety that will make the whole group happy.
Let's face it, once most of us are half loaded, we won't care anyway...
I agree with cHarley on this one. It would be best to have a simple muscian or DJ. I personally like the DJ avenue. They would be able to play a wide variety of music to statisfy the multiple palletes with in this group. What do you all think? If you like the DJ idea, or simple muscian, I will have lisa check locally. Or, a member could check themselves.

Murph
Murph, just to clarify, what I was referring to is BOTH a musician and a DJ so to speak. It's not an "OR" situation. The musician spins background accompaniment music to eliminate the need of having a 6+ piece band group and the good ones can cover a wide variety of music.
