Default Hardtail sportster?

I am thinking of things to do to my Iron, its a lil plain still want some new work on it. After seeing a Sucker Punch Sally '66 bobber im thinking of a spring seat and making it a hardtail.

Had one question, and this is pointed mostly at OldSkool because he has that setup pretty much. How bad will it ride as a hardtail? Is it ganna be okay for a few hours of straight riding or is it ganna make it only bareable for short 30 min or less rides?

Other than Old School, your not going to get alot of input on you question in the FL Crew section. Most of the Crew are old farts that ride baggers.

Post the same question in the Sporty section, and I'm sure you'll get alot more response.

Old men on baggers huh!

Sorry Twisted that I can't help you. But I do know that I can't take riding my son's ole Sporty for very long. Well maybe I am gettin' old. But still fightin' it though!

HAHAHA Don't worry Wideglide my father and me remembered that you dont fit that bagger part of the crew.

I did a lil looking around in the sportster section like i should have before posting this and found a post from oldskool about his bikes ride in response to another persons question. Just figured itd be easier to get a response from him over here.

I'm ganna go ahead with it when i get the money, im young enough and crazy enough to deal with it so why not go ahead and do it right?

Not that anyone really cares, but im ganna try and turn my sportster into a cheaper version of a Sucker Punch Sally 66 bobber.

In '96 a buddy and I stopped for the night in Amarillo. He had heard about a biker bar there and after a few false stops we found the joint south of I-40. Pretty cool mixed crowd including some local Bandidos. There was this one guy who really stood out though. He went from table to table, seem to know everyone in the bar. Came over and welcomed us to the bar and shared a few beers with us. Said his name was Hardtail Bob because he rode a hardtail sportster. He asked where we were from, my buddy was from San Antoinio and told him we were headed home from Sturgis. "Hardtail" said he always want to go, and had headed to Sturgis once, but started pissin' blood about a half day's ride out.

Later, he disappeared with one of the waitress for about an hour. I caught his arm as he walked back in and Hardtail said although he was known mostly as Hardtail Bob to the riders, for the ladies he was also known as "Hard Throb Bob".

So, I guess it depends on how far you want to ride but there may be some positive side effects.

Hi Bud

I own a 69 Triumph Hardtail where the seat rides directly on the frame and this is stricktly for short rides around town as it is. I've had other hard tails with the single spring mounted seats and by also playing a little with a sofyer back tail what you are after is acheivable and more than comfortable. What I would recommend is a faux Hardtail with a short throw rear end and an internal single shock. The other way to soften the ride and ad some old school clas would be to get a rear end with the axel floating up and down in a slide with springs over and under the axel. These are all out there to either purchase or build yourself if you are technically inclined enough!
Write me if you have more questions. I have been involved with hardtail and those semi0hardtail bikes for Triunph, Harley, Norton P11 and assorted Jap Scrap! LOL

depending on your set up they CAN be bad. 3- 4" longer back half with a 15 or 16 wheel 60 series tire the ride will surprise you.Rode this bike NY to Fl. several times way back when with nothing more than a sore *** that went away when I got off the bike. go to xl forums and you'll get tons of info there.G.
