My brother gave me brand new chaps when I bought the bike from him. They have been in the closet ever since. To me I don't like them, assless pants. I where long johns and jeans if its cold.
DrBuick, you live right by the absolute premier chap maker in the United States. No joke.
Kelly's Leather in Richmond Illinois, right at the Illinois Wisconsin boarder is where you need to go.
They hand measure you and hand make them perfectly to your specs. Seeing how you work, I can promise you, you will be unhappy with anything but the best. And Kelly's is the best. My set is over a decade old and are still perfect. They weigh close to five pounds and are the thickest leather you would want. No shortcuts, no chinese or Pakistan leather, just top shelf hand made chaps.
Fox Creek, if you lived in my neck of the woods.

I'll second the vote for Kelly's Leather. Good people, good products.
I wouldn't order chaps online. Every body is different. I have a long torso and a shorter inseam. Just because I'm 5'11" doesn't mean someone else the same height could wear the same chaps. I had to try on about 7 sets of chaps before I found a pair that fit properly.
But, I haven't worn them more than a couple of times in the last 5 years. If it's colder than my flannel lined jeans can handle I wear my armored rain pants over regular jeans. Heated gloves and jacket liner come in handy under about 40*.
