Helmets or Not
Some people, that have never tested the possible benefit of wearing a helmet, explain their preference for 'wind in the hair' or no governmental oppression.
Other people base their view on personal observation or experience and see a benefit in wearing a helmet, that's all.
My home state of NJ mandates a helmet so I wear one. In the winter months when out for longer rides I wear a Shoei GT-Air. I spend a lot of time in Florida which doesnt require a helmet and I ride without. I ride a SG which provides some protection from the bugs - Ive been nailed a few times and can relate to many of the comments made, including the big-*** goop bomb on the sunglasses.
My choice of windshield height is a factor I consider based on planned rides. For me there is no comparison in the riding experience, especially when riding locally around town. My situational awareness is improved and I love and appreciate the ability to completely experience my surroundings. Sights, sounds, smells... And the ability to interact with those around me, whether in vehicles or on the street (smiles, nods, waves... even the occasional few words at a stoplight).
There is nothing cool about it that factors into the decision. For me its all about the experience and unlike a seatbelt (which I do wear), a helmet gets in between me and that experience. Not sure how else to describe it.

Even the "riding experience' may depend of location, reason for riding, etc..
No right, or wrong, just different opinions.
Must have seen a dozen doo-ragged., flip-flop wearing, grey-bearded, pot bellied Harley riders today on my 40 mile cruise around SW Florida this afternoon. Makes me cringe.
for someone on a motorcycle. I just made that up but I still think it's possible.
