Anyone have a suggestion for new tires in eastern Tennessee?
Thunder Mountain HD, wants $565 plus for a rear tire install.
May as well load up trailer and drive to Phoenix and pay for simple install and have bike to ride. I have tires for life back there.
Just need reliable recommendations if anyone has any.
$350.00 retail for the tire+ tax & shipping , so 215.00 to mount and balance ( wheel on the bike ). I buy the American Elite on line for less , remove the wheel myself ( replace wheel bearings while it’s off, cheap insurance) and have the tire mounted and balanced for $50 bucks at my local tire shop. But that doesn’t sound out of line for a dealership.

Unless you can remove the rim yourself, you have to pay labor, which may be in the $125 per hour range.
Sure, independent or other shop shopping is an option.
FWIW Yes, tire cost and install are almost funny.
For a 10 year old tubed tire Sportster the dealer wants near $1000 for OEM tires and install.
So, could say a quarter of its value is tires.
My local indy shop charges $180 to mount and balance both wheels with the wheels on the bike. Bring the wheels off the bike should save money, or as mentioned go the Cycle Gear route, or do it yourself to save. The tires themselves are expensive enough.
That sounds rather high to me, sorry no recommendations down there. Maybe ask them to explain that price, I would. Probably have to much work on their books........
I just did tires, front and rear on my 2014 XL1200T. (I switched brands and sizes but that's left for another thread.) Local stearlership is having a 15% off tire sale. Bought the tires from them cheaper than anywhere else. I mean A LOT ($35 to $40) cheaper. They tried to make up the difference (over charging) for mounting and balancing. If you can or you are willing to do your own mounting and balancing shop around. Break out the irons, spoons and static balancer.
Going to need a new rear tire in the near future for my Wide Glide. The stealership is $45 cheaper then anywhere else, I am going to get the Wide Glide tire while the getting is good put it on the shelf for things to do when there is nothing to. Which will be never because there is always something to do.
