I will wave at anyone riding a motorcycle of any type, even the occasional scooter. Heck, I've even waved to people on bicycles. Once I initiated a wave to about 50 Hog riders coming at me and to a man/woman they all waved back. My arm got kinda tired, and it kinda took my focus off the road, so no more of that! If I wave at a solo rider coming my way and get no response I feel kinda dissed, but how many times have I been looking at a road hazard or adjusting a glove, zipper, etc. when another rider waved at me, and I just didn't see him in time to acknowledge his greeting? Those riders mature enough to understand these things just relax and keep on rolling

Reason: spelling
I wave 99% of the time to anyone on two wheels, even kids on scooters and their cute mommies. I've had 50 bike packs all wave and single riders who seem to not pay attention. Some bikers do, some don't. Most Wingers seem to wave back. Ya, jus never know who will return the wave. I've been waving for over 40 years so I'll probably not stop now.
I always wave when practical and safe to do so. I wave to anyone on two wheels pretty much. We're all brothers in our passion for riding is how I see it... Today it was raining lightly and 44 degrees on my way in to work and I saw a bike getting onto the freeway - gave him a wave as we were the only two bikes on the road at the time.
Some of you guys have it all wrong!!!
Harley Rides have a secret wave....
Hold your hand out just past your bars or fairing just an inch or two. One index finger pionting straight ahead, thumb up, no waving...just hold it there tell you see the whites of there eyes, then go about your business.
If they don't wave back...it's because they don't know the secret "Iv'e got the world by the tail" wave.

Around here its almost a seasonal thing -- in the early spring, the few bikers out generally wave. Towards the end of summer, I think people just get tired of all the waving. The last few rides I had, in late October, the few bikers out in the cold were waving again. Of course, there is always the possiblity that those non-waving "hardcore" H-D guys might mistake the Sharknose for a Goldwing... just for that reason, I really can't understand why anyone would buy a RoadSofa
Today I went riding and this morning passed a group of 6-8 HD riders on touring bikes and not a one returned my friendly wave. Whats up with that? I have been riding for many years and generally wave to everyone (OK, not to crotch rockets because I generally despise them) but to all Cruiser riders on any brand, not just HD. Many guys on Gold Wings, Honda's you name it gladly wave too and usually they do it first. I think there is possibly a segment of HD guys who don't believe in it or only wave to other HD riders and maybe my new HD Road Glide doesn't look like the stereotypical Harley coming at them with the "shark nose" fairing and double headlight?
Anyway, I just wanted to throw this topic out to see what others here think?
Probably a NEW group of HD riders who think their **** don't stink, but can afford a new Harley now, because of the economy, and know that they can't take their hands off the bike because they have no riding experience. I dunno, I try to wave when I can and feel safe about doing it, if I don't feel safe, too bad. Only comment, How do you wave to only other HD riders? When I meet a bike at +- 60 mph, I really can't tell what make it is?

Right on ratcat. I normally "Point" at them, no freaking hand flapping. When I'm on the highway I'll use the cruise control and then it's more difficult to "point" with the left hand when meeting another bike.
Back on the first page about a Biker pointing at the highway in front of your cage... I was about 22 (yea, 30 years ago) and bored, some times I'd screw with someone in a cage for the fun of it. There was this old coot driving a Cadi one day and I pulled up beside him on a four lane and started pointing at his left front wheel. Naturally he was bald and looked to be only about 5' tall driving the Cadi. After about the third time I point at his front wheel the old coot gave me the finger, I laughed my *** off. Did you not think about giving the guy the finger?
