OK, I have been reading this thread all day. Here's how it is!
First of all, any of you hot shots every shot, or killed another person?
Well, I been there, done that. Notice how the Vets are not in this thread all gun ho, like you? I'll tell you why. It is not a "fun" thing to shoot another person, no matter the situation. And when one Does, or HAVE TO, you feel like chit. It's nothing to brag about. It don't make you a BIG MAN. So please, if you have not "been there" hush. Once you have "been there" you will.
Just my .02c
Damn JW, just when it was getting entertaining you gotta go and throw in all this sensible logic....
I know where you are coming from. I have seen SF guys **** themselves in live fire exercises. I've seen big burly men cower and lose their ability to think rationally under pressure.
Just take it with a grain of salt and move on. It is mostly internet bravado anyway. I know most believe they know what they would do but until it actually happens, one never knows.
Somewhere in all of this was lost the OP's original question of judgement. I can't answer. Wasn't there. Never in question was the fate of the perp. He surely got what was desreved. But was it a good shoot? Was anyone put in harm's way?
My .02 - it was not a good shoot or the customer would not have been shot.
Taking a firearms safety course or paying $xxx.00 for a CC permit does not make you Rambo.
I even read that a while ago... Damn my short term memory I apologize.
I agree with you partially, if the robber has the gun but he's not waving it around and pointing it at people then sure no need to shoot anyone but if he has it to the clerks head then the first shot that he could fire would kill him and then it's a little late to take action.
We might not ever know all the details but I am not going to blame the guy for his actions and legally he was in the clear.
I don't own or carry a gun but I would like to think if I was getting held up at gun point some one would stand up for me.

Well said, I was struggling with how to articulate that thought and you did it splendidly and without malice. ( well maybe a little malice )

Well that's the point my friend, if the perp has a gun to my head, and you shoot him in the head, his last movment MIGHT be his finger pulling that trigger on that gun he has to my head!! Me personally, I'd take my chances with you not shooting him, and me giving him the doe........

Thanks!
Well, I thought about writing about that yesterday, but I didn't know how to do it. I didn't do a very good job of it..But I'm glad you guys understand what I was TRYING to say..Thanks
JW... No disrespect intended at all, but once the BG's bullets start flying it's too late. I pray I never have to shoot someone and certainly would not feel good about it, (poor ignorant bastid, not u the perp), but it would be a damn site better than an innocent, (maybe me), getting it. If I could not be reasonably certain that I could get away with it without drawing fire I wouldn't try.
Well, I hope ya'll ain't talkin 'bout my comments. If that customer handled things in a responsible manner, I commend his actions. But, if he did sumthin stupid and just got lucky, that's 'nuther story altogether. If I'm out and encounter an armed thug threatenin folks, if I can take him down with minimal risk to others 'round me, I'm gonna drop him at the earliest possibility. If I'm in the middle of a crowd...'specially if it contains some kids...and, I start poppin off shots from that position, then in addition to the clerk bein in danger, I just placed all those 'round me in direct jeopardy...'cause guess where I just drew fire to. Any kinda in-depth firearms trainin will tell ya that. The crook deserved what he got, and I'm glad he's gone. I'm just not gonna automatically chime in with the "hero" status for this guy without all the details.
Now...if'n yer just respondin to 'teed's comments on how the poor ole criminal mighta just been tryin to feed his family...nevermind...broil away.
Well said sir, have a great day...
Ride Safe,
Bill G

Good point. In this one case I think the guy was right and the only person who got hurt is him (sorry I don't care about the robber at all).
