Every situation is different and fortunately most courts and DAs evaluate deadly force cases from the perspective of the person at the scene and not from the perspective of someone sitting in the safety of their office.
I agree it's generally best to avoid any gunfire in a crowded restaurant. However, sometimes you have no choice.
I say this man is a hero. The perp was armed and dangerous to anyone who was or would ever be in his path. Even if this thug had no intent to hurt anyone in this restaurant who knows what was in his future.
This man may have saved the life of a future victim or cop. Her certainly saved the taxpayers alot of money.
Nobody knows what they would've done unless they've been in a similar situation. The customer was in the right according to the laws governing Florida, and personally I would like to think that I'd have done the same thing.
without question this perp got exactly what he deserved!!! nothing makes me more angry than to see innocent hard working people put in situation like that from some dumba## thug who doesnt have a brain in his head....is the whole thing worth $200...not at all.but what did the fool think he was gonna get out of a bk joint?? a million bucks,c'mon.i have personally been invovlved ina robbery at a party store with my mother when i was 10 yrs old and i was scared sh##tless and at the same time mad as hell that it was happening to my mother and i..i know for a fact if my father had been ther with us that perp WOULD NOT have walked outta there unscaved, because that is just the kind of stand up AMERICAN he is.(given he does have an extensive hand to hand training backround as well as weaponry)....but to the question at hand, yes the perp got what he had coming, and yes i would have done the same thing hopefully without being wounded myself as i would have played it cool til the time was right to make a move and not just pull and open fire.i dont know the details of this case but i do know it's time for americans to start walking tall and quit letting ******** like this fool run around getting away with stuff like this...if enough situations like this have outcomes like this and enough people hear about it eventually people will stop trying to do it!!
My biggest issue with the story is why did the customer get shot? I would assume the robbers attention was primarily on the clerk. If you can't drop the perp without drawing fire in a situation like that then I have to question his judgment. Drop the guy clean or don't put others in danger unless the situation intensifies. But I guess it's impossible to say for sure without having been there.
Wisconsin is one of a few states that doesn't allow concealed carry. Personally I'd like to give "mandatory carry" a try (along with mandatory formal training). You'd probably have about 2 years of all out bloodshed as the hot heads, criminals and dumb shts clear each other out, and then, mutual respect and harmony as far as the eye can see.
(I'm not actually serious about this but it sure is fun to discuss over a few beer)

Not enough info in the writeup but IF the perp was brandishing a gun at the clerk then shooting him was clearly justified. If he simply walked in with a ski mask and demanded money then taking him out was probably not the right decision.

The moment someone walks into ANY establishment ARMED, with the INTENT on robbing it, you can rightly assume that he/she is willing to use that weapon.
If he were to aim that gun on a police officer, would it be safe for the officer to assume that he had no intentions on firing said weapon? No, you would be safe in your assumption that he is going to use that weapon, and therefore, deadly force is justified.
How many stories have been in the news over the past 10 years about incidents just like this, yet there is no one with a firearm present to stop the perpertrator? Too many. NO ONE, NOT ONE PERSON other than the ARMED robber knew what his intent was. Since the weapon was loaded, it's a safe bet that he was prepared to use it against anyone who got in his way...as he so rightly proved.
It's always easy to be the Monday morning quarterback after an incident has taken place. You have the luxury of sitting in your lazy boy, reading the news story after the fact, having plenty of time to "plan" what you would have done had you been there. The person actually on scene doesn't have that luxury and a decision in situations like this are made in split seconds.
The perp deserves to be dead and the customer is a hero.

That's what the anti's said when all this concealed weapons buisness started back in the mid 90's. They said blood would flow in the streets. Never Happened. What some don't seem to get is that to obtain a CCW your background is thouroughly checked. They are extremely law abiding citizens. Most permit holders would never do anything to jeopardize their precious right to carry.
