Alright... I had to get my bike across town to the mechanic 'cuz I can't change my own tire; I can do basic stuff but that's a little beyond me. I needed to put a new inner tube on my front tire (a 21' laced rim) did the soap & water trick, it was leaking around the valve stem. So to get it across town I took a 200 psi micro compressor...an el cheap-o my ma had & was gonna throw away cuz the cigarette lighter plug adapter was broken... that had alligator clips on the pos & neg. So I filled the tire up by clipping the negative to the foot peg & touch the back of the solenoid.... count to 200 tire is filled. 7 miles in medium traffic, 3 stops to check & refill tire, & next thing you know, robert is your mother's brother and I make it to the shop. So here I am congratulating myself that I didn't have to pay $$$$ to trailer my bike when a co-worker about has a conniption! His words exactly "I'm surprised that little stunt didn't get you killed" blinking his eyes rapidly with involuntary shakes of his head...
so... just exactly how dangerous was my little stunt, & would any of you do it?
as long as you wernt trying to fill the tire as yuo where rolling theres nothing i can see in herintly wrong with what ya did LOL, no differnt then stopping at severa lservice stations and filling it along the way. but for future reference if you have a pig tail installed for a battery ttender get a nother pig tail t omate with it and wire the compressor to the pig tai lso you can just plug it in to the tender pig tail, i have one ofthose mini compressors you plug int oa automotive cig lighter wired liek that as well as a handheld spot light and a power invertor for longer trips * gotta be able to charge the laptop up on the road LOL
Had a similar problem with a leaking valve stem just as we were leaving for a trip on a Sunday morning. My tire guy is 25 minutes away and I figured it would drop about 10 lbs pressure in that time - pumped it up to 44 and headed out. Checked it once on the way and it was fine.
I didn't feel this was inherently dangerous - it wasn't going to cause a catastrophic failure of the tire and if it got low, I could always top it up with the mini-compressor.
Doesn't sound like it was going to blow-out as you were at high speed, worked well seems to me.
I have voted in the past to rent the cheap little U-Haul bike trailer in the past but if one was not available I would have tried same. (if I had thought of it)
i would have done the same thing. I rode mine to the dealer with a nail in the tire before had no choice didn't find it until i stopped at a gas station so who knows how long it was in there. Was a newer tire only about half worn down luckily had tire wheel coverage which has saved me twice both were roofing nails think the neighboor down the street may have lost a few when he re did his house. First time i trailerd as the tire was flat in the garage and not holding air the next day when i came out to leave for work sucked.

Sounds like your co-worker is the kind of guy who is afraid of his own shadow. You do what you gotta do. Sometimes the bike is broke dick and you limp it along to get where you can fix it. You handled it. I'm sure you weren't doing any high speed runs.
Next time he says something like that, leave a few moments of silence after he gets done talking, then suddenly yell "BOO!", and laugh as he ***** himself.
