I think you would have only been able to measure how dangerous it was if you had not made it to the shop.

Sounds like you used your head, and your co-worker needs to cowboy up some.

Is that worse than wedging the gas pedal down on your spinning truck while you are shoveling clear the front tires? If it works, it was safe by definition.

Your brother must be a very ingenious guy... maybe even super-genius?

Wasn't particularly dangerous, but surely was more expensive than necessary. Why not pull the wheel and take it to the dealer? No jack? No tools?

Here's a link to a <$20 jack: http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/bikelift.htm

I've got a motorcycle lift table, a motorcycle/ATV jack, and 2 of these home-made lifts. One is 8" high, and the other is 12" high. Guess which jacks get used most?

unfortunately, floor space is limited, so yeah no jack & a minimum of tools... condo living & all that... I'm lucky to have a space to park it in a secure garage (1 of 4 bikes in a 1 car). Eventually, when we buy our second home & rent this one out, I'll have a garage, until then...

Hey...what did your co-worker want to do? Send out the Michelin Man police to arrest ya??? I would have, and have, done the very same thing. Just gotta be a little more cautious, but if it gets you where you need to go....

The only thing I don't get is the counting to 200 part? You might want to invest in a tp gauge.
