Default Plugged front tire???????

Am about to take off Monday to Maggie Valley for my summer trip and while going over my bike I noticed what looks like a piece of metal, maybe a nail or screw, some sort of shinny metal in my front tire. Did not pull it out yet going till I get to the tire shop. Need some info on riding with a plugged tire on a bike. I've never plugged a bike tire but have ridden thousands of miles on plugged tire in my autos. What say you guys?????

I wouldnt plug it, but why not take it to a tire shop and have them patch it ?
You would likely want to have it balanced as well.
If neither of these float your boat, your going to ahve to put a new skin on it.

Patching would be the best repair but HD will not repair a tire. Only replace. It's hard to find a place that will patch a motorcycle tire.

After getting the second nail in a week and buying two new tires, I put tire sealant (Slime) in the rear tire when I picked up another nail. I didn't have the extra cash for a third tire. Originally I meant for it to be temporary but put 10,000 miles on that tire and never had it fixed.

I only say that because it can be done but for safety and piece of mind, I wouldn't recommend it. Especially if you are going on a road trip.

Since it hasn't gone flat, put some soapy water and see if it bubbles. You may get lucky and it's only in the meat of the tread and didn't go all the way through.

Personally, I'd change it IF it's truly a puncture! You won't know untill you pull the nail ETC. out of the tire. It's not worth risking a blowout to save a few $$$ with a repair in my book. If it goes at speed, more than likely you're going down and that's never pretty. Having said that, if you HAVE to plug or patch the tire for whatever reason, a patch beats pluging every time! I consider a plug a temporary fix to get you to a place for a proper repair or replacement. Good luck with whatever you choose, and maybe you'll get lucky and only have something stuck part way in the tire.

I'm a new guy but I thought I'd throw in my ten cents worth. The last time I plugged a tire was an 800 lb touring bike about 22 yrs ago. I rode it about a week before it threw out the plug at about 75 mph. I had just took the center of three lanes between two 18 wheelers and it took all three lanes and about 1/2 a mile to get it to roll out to a stop as when they flatten all at once it slides from side to side on the rubber. If it had been a front I probably wouldn't be typing. Don't do it!
