Default Close calls

We had the first really nice day yesterday, first one in a while so my wife and I took off for a three hour ride. Cut off by cages coming into my lane two different times and one left turn almost into me.

That's one per hour, I think they are lying in wait for us...

Sorry about that, not really "close" calls. I guess I am not the rider I thought I was, probably situationally unaware.

When I first joined this forum I was just becoming re-aquainted with street riding after 30 yrs off. I remember posting often about close calls but always adding that I should've seen it coming, could've avoided it, learned from every one of 'em and so-forth. Kinda like being James Bond - at least one attempt on my life everyday.
Now after a little over 3 yrs steady riding (and still learning) there's hardly ever a close call anymore, and when there is it's no surprize. Hmmm, go figure.

What he said. If you think you are having close calls------------it is you. They may be close but only because your not on your game. Seen where you agreed with that. Your learning.

I was in a serious wreck 8 years ago and damned near died. A woman pulled out in front of me on the Trans Canada Hwy and I broadsided her car. That didn't turn out very well for me I'm afraid. It was 2 years before I got back to work and I broke more bones that day than many people do in their lifetime. I don't remember the accident because I fractured my skull and was in a coma for a week. I was told that with a head injury a certain portion of one's memory before the injury would be absent. Anyway the point I'm trying to get at is that I'm 100% positive that I could have avoided that situation. I wasn't on my game and I paid dearly for it. Even now I catch myself muttering under my breath about people spiking their brakes in front of me or doing something quickly and unexpectedly. Then I get to thinking about it a little harder. None of that would have had any effect on me at all if I wasn't riding their *** or not giving a reasonable amount of space around me. I updated the 3 second rule to 5 just to cover my own ***. We have to watch out for other drivers, it's just the way it is and just as many people drive like idiots when we are in our car as they do when we are riding.

Default 2nd Set Of Eyes

When with me, the wife feels the need to call out all the close ones. It's always good to have a second set of eyes watching out, but she should realize that I didn't make it 58 years unscathed without keeping my own eyes open. ALL "close calls" should have been avoided entirely REGARDLESS of who was at fault!

I expect cagers to try and make many close calls for me everytime I ride. They turn into no big deals.

I had a car pull out right in front of me when I was doing 55MPH with my wife on the back. I was honed in on the cars front wheels and sure enough he waited until I was right there and they started moving. I had already planned to ride down the center line off the road, gave it some throttle, and was outta there. The next stop I asked my wife if it scared here...she never even knew anything happened. lol

I suppose you never see the one that gets you before it's too late. I've been in a couple of situations that caught me off guard, they were close, in fact one of them I still don't know how I got away unscathed.
