Apr. 29, 2009 the Missouri State Legislature passed a new helmet law. A rider 21 and over now has the choice to wear or not to wear a helmet on all state highways. Interstate riding will require a helmet. This law is now on the Gov's desk awaiting his signature, if he allows it to lay 10 days without signing it, it still becomes law, effective Aug.28, 2009. This has been a long fight and those involved should be congratulated.
Good info. I cruised thru there last summer on the way to Texas was unaware of any requirements. Teach me to look before I drive. So right now it's helmets everywhere?
Congratulate me then, but not. The gov will veto it unless people slam his office with calls. I know him personally. I helped Jay get elected, but this issue is like the abortion issue, it's a vote splitter. Call or write.
Actually, according to what I was told, he might not sign it, but won't veto it. If it lays in his in box for 10 days it automaticly becomes law. With it being part of the comparative negligence law, I don't think he will veto it. At least I am praying he don't, have called and emailed and encouraged all riders and friends to do the same.
Well hoping that he at least lets it lay then ... Less Back lash that way always a stand on freedom of choice when comes to a Helmet even if was a Devout Helmet wearer ..
well keep us up on this .if he let's lay or not or what ever i know this has been going on for a long time down there.hope he let's it go thru there has been alot of people working real hard for a long time to get it this far. work well done hope it get's over i go down alot but be glad to take the back road's to enjoy the freedom that everybody has worked hard for.i thank everybody who was apart of this.
I understand that this is SB202 that apparently passed, and is awaiting the gov's signature. This one will still require helmets on interstates though?
I thought there was a second bill floating around this year that would abolish the helmet requirement entirely - does anyone know what happened to that one, or am I crazy??
I am not sure, all other helmet bills, may have been withdrawn or died in committee, when SB202 was presented. If you search for Missouri House of Representatives and then click on bill search and type in SB202 you will read the bill as passed.
